This workshop will explore the Demoscene, a digital art subculture focused on creating audiovisual effects to entertain and impress. We will use TIC-80, a free and joyful 'virtual console' to develop a selection of effects, leaving you with the skills and pointers to continue creating on your own.
Experience level
Some very basic programming experience will be required but participants do not need to be familiar with Lua. There will be additional challenge available for more experienced programmers.
Requirements
Participants should bring a laptop, with TIC-80 downloaded and installed (tic80.com/create). We will be using the Lua language.
Hosted by:
James Rutherford (jtruk)
James used to be a games programmer - learning mathematical fundamentals, memory mapping, and the discipline for managing magic within hardware constraints. Nowadays he's a server-side systems programmer during daylight hours, fuelling a creative itch for his alter ego, jtruk, a prolific contributor to the demoscene subculture.
